Sri Vinay
Bio
Sri Vinay is the Associate Director for Information Technology (IT) division at CIESIN. He manages CIESIN’s computing infrastructure and data systems including the hardware, software, and the IT staff. He also serves as the deputy manager and systems engineer of the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC), a data center in NASA’s Earth System Observatory (ESO). He is a software engineer and has been working in the area of systems architecture and software engineering for more than 25 years. His areas of focus are the architecture, design, and implementation of distributed data and information systems; data and systems integration, interoperability, and management; geospatial data services and applications development; and cloud computing.
Sri Vinay received his MS degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Toronto, Canada and an ME degree in energy technology from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. He received his BE degree in electrical engineering from the University of Madras, India.
Prior to joining CIESIN in 1997, he served as a research associate and software developer at the United Nations Environment Program - Global Resource Information Database (UNEP-GRID) node, as the information systems manager for Sri-U-Thong Co. Limited, Thailand, and as a research associate with the European Community - Cooperative Program on Energy and Development (EC-COPED), Thailand. He also served as an instructor in the department of Telecommunications Engineering at the Church of South India (CSI) Technical Institute, Salem, India.
