Matthew S Walter

Dr. Matthew Walter is a Senior Staff Associate I at the Center for Integrated Earth System Information (CIESIN) of the Columbia Climate School. At CIESIN, he is a member of the Science Applications Division, where he works on GRID3 to generate transportation datasets for Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Prior to working at CIESIN, Matthew received his PhD from the University of Delaware (2024) in Geography and Spatial Science. His research focuses on the application of remote sensing and geospatial data science techniques to better understand human-environmental interactions and their policy implications. His research has been applied to environmental challenges in agricultural, coastal, and urban ecosystems.
